WARREN HAYNES INTERVIEW
(Originally aired on February 19, 2009)
Warren Haynes plays lead guitar in the Allman Brothers Band and also fronts his own group, Gov't Mule. Standing at the intersection of '60s blues, '70s hard rock, and the contemporary jam-band scene, Haynes reaches a wide audience with his powerful tone and wailing solos. He manages to channel Free's Paul Kossoff and tap the essence of early Leslie West, Jimmy Page, Billy Gibbons and Eric Clapton without sounding derivative.
In our exclusive interview, Haynes describes recording Gov't Mule's 2006 album, High & Mighty. He recounts stories from the sessions and reveals what it was like to work with producer and guitarist Gordie Johnson of the band Big Sugar.
