SHARON ISBIN INTERVIEW #2
(Originally aired on December 22, 2011)
One of the world's foremost classical guitarists, Sharon Isbin has commissioned and premiered new works from major composers and appeared as a soloist with more than 140 orchestras worldwide. Isbin created Juilliard's guitar department when she arrived at the school in 1989, and today she still chairs it. Isbin earned her first Grammy in 2001, and in 2010 scored another for her album, Journey to the New World.
In our exclusive interview, Isbin takes us behind the scenes of her 2011 release, Guitar Passions, which features eight guest artists, including guitarists Romero Lubambo, Steve Vai, Stanley Jordan, Steve Morse and Nancy Wilson. Isbin explains how she arranged and recorded the eclectic music on this album, and what it was like to work with her various collaborators.
