ROYAL SOUTHERN BROTHERHOOD INTERVIEW
(Originally aired on July 9, 2012)
Two musical lineages intertwine in Royal Southern Brotherhood, a new quintet headed by the mighty Cyril Neville. As a member of The Meters and Neville Brothers, the Grammy-winning vocalist and percussionist helped pioneer New Orleans funk, and at 63, he’s still a force of nature. Les Paul-wielding Devon Allman, whose dad is Gregg Allman, represents the other, equally potent bloodline. Allman and blues-rocker Mike Zito share 6-string duties in RSB, recalling the twin-guitar magic of the Allman Brothers and early Fleetwood Mac. In our exclusive interview, the two guitarists describe their respective roles in this grooving band and reveal how they work out their parts. During this feature we'll hear selections from the group’s self-titled debut album. And - exclusive recording alert - as a special treat, we'll also hear RSB rocking out onstage at a Nashville club earlier this summer.
