KENNY VAUGHAN INTERVIEW

(Originally aired on September 29, 2011)

One of Nashville's most celebrated sidemen and studio pickers, Kenny Vaughan is known for his bold, distinctive lines and equally distinctive clothes and persona. The many artists Vaughan has toured and recorded with include Lucinda Williams, Rodney Crowell, Marshall Chapman, Kim Richey, Greg Garing and the Sweethearts of the Rodeo. Vaughan draws on Bakersfield honky tonk, '60s soul jazz, British invasion pop and more, and in 2006, the Americana Music Association named him Instrumentalist of the Year. For the last decade, Vaughan has played with Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives.

Vaughan is simply one of Nashville's most original guitarists, and fans of his eclectic picking have been waiting for years for a solo album. Now, the wait is over: Vaughan's new release, simply titled V, showcases his diverse playing and songwriting.

In our exclusive interview, Vaughan describes recording V, which features his boss, Marty Stuart, as well as the Fabulous Superlatives. We‘ll hear selections from the album and also learn about Vaughan's early musical development. Telecaster freaks will also be delighted to hear Vaughan discuss Clarence White’s original B-Bender Tele, which Stuart now owns and plays on V.
