JOE BOYD INTERVIEW TALKING ABOUT NICK DRAKE
(Originally aired on February 12, 2009)
Nick Drake died in 1974 at age 26 after recording only three albums: Five Leaves Left (1969), Bryter Layter (1970) and Pink Moon (1972). Though Drake was virtually ignored during his life, his influence continues to grow. Today he's an icon for indie rock bands and singer-songwriters.
To commemorate Drake's creative spirit, we'll hear both his music and an exclusive interview with Joe Boyd, who produced Five Leaves Left and Bryter Layter. Boyd also produced Pink Floyd's first single, "Arnold Layne," and worked extensively with the Incredible String Band, Fairport Convention and Richard Thompson. Boyd has written about his experiences in his memoir, White Bicycles — Making Music in the 1960s.
