GRANT GEISSMAN INTERVIEW
(Originally aired on September 20, 2012)
Grant Geissman first emerged on the music scene as the lead guitarist with Chuck Mangione. Geissman's solo on Mangione's 1977 hit "Feels So Good" still stands as one of the most memorable moments in '70s instrumental music. In 1978 Geissman released Good Stuff, his first album as a leader, and since then he has released 13 albums, two of which reached No. 1 on the contemporary jazz charts. Geissman is also an active composer, and his music is heard on the CBS series Two And A Half Men and Mike & Molly. As a session player, Geissman has laid down tracks with a host of legendary musicians, including Quincy Jones, Ringo Starr, Burt Bacharach, and Elvis Costello.
Geissman's 2012 solo release is Bop! Bang! Boom! and in our exclusive interview the Bay Area guitarist describes writing and recording the album's 12 grooving instrumentals. During the feature, we'll also hear selections from the album.
