DAMON FOWLER INTERVIEW
(Originally aired on March 10, 2011)
Mixing swampy lap steel, biting Tele, and bluesy slide guitar with powerful songwriting and expressive vocals, Fowler brings a gutsy, fresh perspective to Americana music. A native Floridian, Fowler grew up around blues, country, rock, and soul and these sounds emerge organically in his playing and singing. Since releasing his first album — 1999's Riverview Drive — Fowler has shared the stage with the likes of Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Delbert McClinton, Robin Trower, Gregg Allman, Johnny Winter, Jimmy Vaughan, Junior Brown, Rick Derringer, Little Feat and The Radiators.
Fowler's 2011 album, Devil Got His Way, displays the many facets of this multi-instrumentalist's talents. In our exclusive interview, Fowler describes recording Devil Got His Way, and reveals his influences and explains how they shape his music. We'll hear selections from Devil Got His Way woven through our conversation.
