CINDY CASHDOLLAR INTERVIEW
(Originally aired on January 8, 2009)
Known for her lush, vibrant tone and impeccable intonation, Cindy Cashdollar is one of the planet’s finest slide guitarists. She has toured or recorded with Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, the Dixie Chicks, Dolly Parton, Ryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Van Morrison and Merle Haggard, and she earned five Grammy Awards as a member of the swinging Asleep At The Wheel. Equally at home picking a vintage Dobro, an old National resonator guitar or laying down fat horn voicings on a tripleneck 8-string steel, Cashdollar is a master of bluegrass, gutbucket blues, honky tonk, swampy R&B and Western swing.
In our exclusive interview, Cashdollar describes recording Slide Show, her debut solo album. She explains what it was like to record with Dobro master Mike Auldridge, pedal-steel legend Herb Remington and slide guru Sonny Landreth — all of whom appear on the album — and details the challenges she faced tracking duets with other slide and steel players.
