A CONVERSATION WITH ... BARRY TASHIAN OF THE REMAINS

(Originally aired on March 11, 2010)

In 1964, four Boston University students formed a group called The Remains. Their high-energy sound drew a host of rabid fans who would line the streets in Kenmore Square to hear the band shake the Rathskeller, a favorite club for BU students and Boston rockers. Before long, The Remains scored several regional hits, and in December 1965, they performed for 14 million viewers on Ed Sullivan’s Christmas show. A remarkable overnight success, The Remains crisscrossed the US in 1966, opening for The Beatles in what was to be the Fab Four's final American tour.

We'll hear Barry Tashian, The Remains' lead guitarist and frontman, tell the story of playing on The Ed Sullivan Show, and how it affected him and his bandmates. It's a great tale. We'll also listen to a rare track from The Remains that illustrates their wild sound.
